Event Overview

This free public session is designed for high school students and focuses on youth grants, summer job applications, and university applications. OCLS hopes to help students discover resources earlier, plan with more confidence, and connect personal interests with skills, leadership, and community involvement.

The session will introduce government grants and funds available to youth, and explain how innovation projects, community service, and leadership experience can support student growth. Two students who are entering university will share their application experience, and a Grade 11 student will share practical experience applying for summer jobs at Nokia, Ericsson, and similar companies.

Learn about government grants and funds for youth, and how students can build innovation, community involvement, and leadership through project-based initiatives.

University Application Process

Two students entering university will share their application journey, including timelines, preparation, documents, and key points students should pay attention to during the process.

Summer Job Applications

A Grade 11 student will share experience applying for summer jobs at Nokia, Ericsson, and similar companies, including how to find opportunities, prepare a resume, apply, and interview.

Jenny Yuan recently graduated from Merivale High School, earning her IB Diploma, and will be attending the University of Waterloo to study Computer Science. A former OPDL soccer player, she balances her passion for sports, including school sports and soccer refereeing, with her interests in robotics and coding. Last summer, she interned at Nokia as a Software Engineering Intern in the Future Tech program. She is excited to share her experiences from high school, the university application process, and the lessons she learned along the way to help other students navigate their own journeys.

Andy Han is the founder of Redshifted, a youth-led non-profit making tech education more accessible. Balancing rigorous IB academics with competitive robotics, he is currently completing a software internship at Ericsson and recently won first place at "Hack the Mountain", a university level hackathon.
